Luis Gustavo Nonato

Luis Gustavo Nonato received his PhD in applied mathematics from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1998. He is currently a full professor at the Institute of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, University of São Paulo, São Carlos, Brazil. Nonato was a visiting professor at the Center for Data Science at the New York University, New York, USA, from 2016 to 2018. From 2009 to 2010, he was a visiting scholar at the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, USA. Besides serving in several program committees, including IEEE Visualization and EuroVis, he was associate editor of the Computer Graphics Forum journal and IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics. He was also the editor-in-chief of the SBMAC SpringerBriefs in Applied Mathematics and Computational Sciences. Nonato’s main research interests include visualization, machine learning, and data science. Prof. Nonato has a strong interest in bridging the gap between academia, industry, and governments, leading a number of initiatives with the private sector while settling collaboration agreements between the academy and government agencies, mainly in the context of crime analytics.
