Alexandre Alves

Walter Alexandre Carnielli is a full Professor at University of Campinas – Unicamp, Brazil – working in the areas of Logic, Foundations of Mathematics and Probability, and Philosophy of Formal Sciences. He has special interested in formalisms that extend classical logic, probability theory, and reasoning. He holds a PhD in Mathematics from Unicamp with postdoc positions from the University of California, Berkley and University of Münster, Germany. Carnielli is a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and member of the Security and Quantum Information Group of the Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal. He has served, among other activities, as Director of the Centre for Logic, Epistemology and the History of Science (CLE) at Unicamp, president of the Brazilian Logic Society (SBL), frequent committee member of the Florida Artificial Intelligence Research Society (FLAIR) and International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI), and currently as executive editor of the Logic Journal of the IGPL (Oxford Un.Press). Carnielli is the president of the Scientific Committee and coordinator of the Laboratory of Logic and Critical Thinking at The Modal Institute (Brasília) and a recipient of the Telesio Galilei Gold Medal and Prêmio Jabuti.

André Carlos Ponce de Leon Ferreira de Carvalho received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Computer Science from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Brazil. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Kent, UK. Prof. André de Carvalho is Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil. He has published around 90 Journal and 200 Conference refereed papers. He has been involved in the organization of several conferences and journal special issues. His main interests are Data Science, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Bioinformatics, Evolutionary Computation and Bioinspired Computing.

Marcelo Dias Carvalho is Full Professor at the Superior School of Engineering and Management (ESEG), Professor of the Educational Group ETAPA, Researcher in the area of Optimisation of Productive Systems, Operational Research, Multivariate Statistics and Neural Networks. He works with research of development of New Methods of Learning, Robotics and Internet of Things. Participates in different projects of teaching and product development factories focused on the use of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. Has experience of work in the area of higher education, high school and sugar and alcohol industry. With a partial graduation in engineering from the Technological Institute of Aeronautics, he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering of the University of São Paulo and a Masters in Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo. He is the author of the book “Dreaming, Studying and Conquering”, which deals with methods of learning and academic development.

Dalcimar Casanova received his M.Sc. degree at Computer Science and Computational Mathematics at ICMC-USP (2008) and his Ph.D. degree at the Computational Physics at IFSC-USP (2013) and postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Physics of São Carlos IFSC-USP (2015). He is currently adjunct professor at Federal University of Technology, Paraná (UTFPR) and teaches in the Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering. He has experience in the areas of Computer Science, Computational Physics and applications in multidisciplinary areas, working mainly in computer vision, complex networks, fractals, machine learning, deep learning, and bioinformatics.

Leandro Nunes de Castro is an Electrical Engineer, holds an M.Sc and Ph.D in Computer Engineering and an MBA in Strategic Business Management. He has over 240 papers published in journals and conferences, and has written 4 books. He founded and leads the Natural Computing and Machine Learning Laboratory (LCoN) of the Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering and Computing of the Mackenzie Presbyterian University. In the last 13 years, he founded and participated in the structuring of four technology start-ups and has broad technology transfer experience. He is currently the Chief Development and Innovation Officer at the Mackenzie Presbyterian University, being responsible for the whole Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem at the university.

Nestor Caticha is a Professor of Physics at the University of São Paulo (USP). Holds a B. Sc.  from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and  a Ph.D. in Physics from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). His main interests are in the area  of theoretical physics of information processing systems, with applications to the theory of learning in artificial and biological systems;  statistical mechanics; applications to inverse problems; and the study of societies of information processing agents.

Raphael Mendes de Oliveira Cobe studied Computer Engineering at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, then received his M.Sc. on Computer Science with emphasis on Software Engineering and Natural Language Processing. Then, he finished his  Ph.D. on Computer Science at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo with emphasis on Artificial Intelligence. He accounts for over 10 years of experience on software development. He works as Research Associate at UNESP Center for Scientific Computing since 2015 on projects related to Machine Learning, High Performance Computing and Big Data. He is also part of the team that maintains the GridUnesp infrastructure.

Esther Luna Colombini received a Ph.D. degree in computing engineering from Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA). She is an Associate Professor with the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). Her research interests include machine learning, autonomous robotics, cognitive modeling, and robotics in education. She was elected the president of RoboCup Brazil (2012-2016) and the Organizer of the Brazilian Robotics Olympiad (2015-2016), a public initiative that involves 150,000 students supported by the National Council of Technological and Scientific Development. She is a founding member of the Brazilian Robotics Olympiad (OBR) and the National Robotics Fair (MNR). She was General co-Chair of the RoboCup 2014 World event. She was elected Director of Scientific Competitions of the Brazilian Computer Society (2017-2019). She coordinates the Laboratory of Robotics and Cognitive Systems at UNICAMP.

Anna Helena Reali Costa is Full Professor at University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. She holds a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from USP, and an Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering from the FEI University Center in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil. She was a research scientist at the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, working in robot vision and intelligent mobile robots. She was also a guest researcher at Carnegie Mellon University, USA, working in planning, control, learning, and execution algorithms for multi-robot teams. She has published around 200 refereed papers in Journals and Conferences. Her main interest lies in artificial intelligence, particularly in visual perception, autonomous agents, and real-time learning, especially in reinforcement learning and knowledge transfer.

Fabio Gagliardi Cozman is a full Professor at Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil, where he works with probabilistic reasoning and machine learning, with a special interest in formalisms that extend probability theory. He got an Engineering degree at USP-Brazil and a PhD in Robotics at Carnegie Mellon University-USA, and has served, among other activities, as Program and General Chair of the Conf. on Uncertainty in Artificial Intelligence, Area Chair of the Int. Joint Conf. on Artificial Intelligence, Associate Editor of the Artificial Intelligence Journal, Associate Editor of the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research, and Associate Editor of the Journal of Approximate Reasoning; he was chair of the chapter on Artificial Intelligence at the Sociedade Brasileira de Computação.

Fábio Lima Custódio is a technologist at the Laboratório Nacional de Computação Científica(LNCC). He holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro(UFRJ)and a PhD in Computational Modeling from LNCC. During his graduation, he gained expertise in molecular modeling, protein structure prediction, metaheuristics, genetic algorithms, and molecular modeling. Fábio is proficient in C, C++, Python and Shell script, and having participated, with an in-house automated server, in the Critical Assessment of Protein Structure Prediction(CASP)has acquired comprehensive experience in HPC. Currently, he is using Tensorflow to apply deep learning models (Convolutiveand Residual Neural Networks) in molecular modeling problems, such as protein structure prediction and sequence classification.

Luiz Fernando Cardoso dos Santos Durão is professor at the Escola Superior de Engenharia e Gestão (ESEG), and at INSPER, Researcher at the Escola Politécnica of the University of São Paulo, and Visiting Researcher at the Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany). He works with advanced manufacturing and product development using design thinking. He participates in different additive manufacturing, distributed manufacturing, teaching and product development projects both focusing on the use of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. He has experience in the financial, oil and gas and automotive industry areas. He participated of the Brazilian team in the discipline “Design Innovation” in partnership with Stanford University and a Brazilian company of the aeronautics sector. He has collaborated with international product development disciplines in partnership with Aalto Design Factory (Finland) and Trinity College Dublin (Ireland). He is Production Engineer (2014), with Master in production engineering (2017) and Ph.D. student at the Escola Politécnica of the University of São Paulo.

Jean Faber is Professor at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Nucleus of Neuroscience in São Paulo. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from the Federal University of Juiz Fora (UFJF), with Master and Ph.D. in the field of Quantum Information and Computation from the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing (LNCC-MCTI), Brazil. He did a postdoctoral fellow at the Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives (CEA/LETI/CLINATEC), France in the neural signal analysis field. Currently, he coordinates the Laboratory of Neuroengineering and Neurocognition with interests in the areas of Statistical Learning and Neuronal Signal Analysis applied to Neuro-Biofeedback, Brain Computer Interface, and sensory-motor problems.

Alexandre Xavier Falcão is a full professor at the Institute of Computing, University of Campinas (Unicamp). His international experience in image analysis started in 1994-1996 when he worked on medical image analysis at the Department of Radiology, University of Pennsylvania, USA. In 2011-2012, he worked at the Robert W. Holley Center for Agriculture and Health (USDA, Cornell University), USA, on image analysis applied to plant biology. He currently holds a research productivity fellowship (level 1A) from CNPq and his research interests include image/video processing, visualization, and analysis; graph algorithms and dynamic programming; image annotation, organization, and retrieval; machine learning and pattern recognition; and image analysis applications in Biology, Medicine, Biometrics, Geology, and Agriculture.

Fabio Augusto Faria received his BSc in Computer Science (2007) from the State University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), the MSc degree in Computer Science (2010) and the doctorate in Computer Science (2014) from the University of Campinas (Brazil).  During 2012-2013 he worked as a visiting scholar at University of South Florida and during 2014-2015, he had worked as a post-doctorate researcher at University of Campinas. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Science and Technology, Federal University of Sao Paulo (ICT-UNIFESPl). His research interests include information fusion, data mining, machine learning, and image processing.

Mariza Ferro received her M.Sc. degree n Computer Science from University of São Paulo focused on Relational Machine Learning. PhD in Computational Modeling from the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing (LNCC). Postoctoral fellow at LNCC in the Projects “HighPerformance Computing for Energy (HPC4E)” and “MedicineAssisted by Scientific Computing (MACC)”. She has experience in Computer Science, acting on the following subjects: Machine Learning, Inductive Logic Programming, Data Mining, High Performance Computing and performance evaluation. Currently, she is a post-doctorate researcher at LNCC working in the use of Artificial Intelligence to improve performance and to reduce energy consumption for HPC and the application of Machine Learning concepts aiming to understand and to improve the performance of scientific simulations.

Marcelo Finger is Professor of Computer Science at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics, University of São Paulo, CNPq research grant receiver level 1C. Received his BSc in Electronic Engineering from the University of São Paulo (1988), MSc (1990) and PhD (1994) in Computing by the Imperial College, University of London (1990). Receiver of several awards, among which Convocation Sesquicentenial Award (1990), Armstrong Prize and Medal (1994), Jabuti Prize (2007 -1o place, category Science, Technology and Informatics) and several awards for teaching performance (2002, 2004, 2005, 2006). Currently conducts research involving logical and probabilistic reasoning in order to understand the interaction between these two basic ways of thinking, their computational complexity and their applications in Artificial Intelligence, Databases, Computational Linguistics and Digital Humanities.

Carlos Alberto Kamienski is a Full Professor of Computer Science at the Federal University of ABC (UFABC, Brazil). Currently, he leads the NUVEM Strategic Research Unit comprising 18 faculty members and their students working in five broad research lines, namely smart societies, virtual sensations, connected mobility, extreme computing and integrated universes. He is currently the Brazilian coordinator of SWAMP, a EU-Brazil collaborative research project that develops IoT based methods and approaches for smart water management in precision irrigation. His current research interests include Internet of Things, smart cities, smart agriculture, cloud/fog computing, network softwarization and Future Internet. Also, he served for about 10 years in management positions at UFABC, as Director of a Graduate Program, Vice-President for Graduate Studies and Head of International Relations.

Marcelo Labre is an Executive Director at Morgan Stanley based in New York and leading a group of people working with artificial intelligence use cases in finance. As a practitioner and an academic, he is a thought leader in artificial intelligence and has worked in various leadership roles in finance spanning the globe. He was a member of the faculty at London Business School while based in the UK, and a Professor at the National University of Singapore during his period living in Singapore. He is also a researcher in artificial intelligence with special interests in optimization algorithms for training deep neural networks. He holds an Electrical Engineering degree from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), a Masters in Finance from London Business School and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Imperial College London.

Industrial Engineer graduated from UFRJ with an MBA in Corporate Finance from PUC-RJ, Leonardo joined Facebook in 2012 before the IPO to act as the Growth Manager of new businesses across Latin America. Successfully deployed the mobile app install ad unit, launched the  internet.org initiative, managed relationship with large Telcos and during the past 2 years grew Facebook’s collaboration tool – Workplace by Facebook – by 50x. After 7 years at the company he decided to leave the life at a tech giant in order to move faster and create something disruptive. In 2019 founded 2 companies on the AI space and is playing an active role developing the startup ecosystem.

Mamede Lima-Marques was a Full Professor at the University of Brasília (UnB), Faculty of Information Science and was Full Professor at the Federal University of Uberlandia, Faculty of Computer Science. Post-doctoral in Mathematical Logic Applied to Computing, in the Centre for Logic, Epistemology and History of Science at University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil; Ph.D. in Computer Science from Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France; Master in Computer Science from Université Paul Sabatier; Master in Computer Science from Institute of Computing at Unicamp; Bachelor’s and Licentiate Degrees in Philosophy from the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas. Founder and director of the Centre for Research in Architecture  of Information at UnB. He was an advisor in the Graduate Program in Information Science (master’s and doctorate) where he was founder and chair of the field Architecture of Information. Throughout his academic and professional life, he has been involved with Artificial Intelligence, signing an expressive number of projects, mainly in the areas of: automatic reasoning, foundational and programming in classical and non-classical logics, knowledge representation, highly complex information systems, philosophy of information, architecture of information and ontologies. For five years, he taught the discipline of artificial intelligence at the Ecole Nationale de l’Aviation Civile, Toulouse, France, and at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, Brive-la-Gaillarde, France. He is the author and co-author of several national and international papers. He is currently President and Co-founder of the Modal Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Gustavo Meirelles, MD, PhD, is Medical Manager of Radiology, Strategy and Innovation at Fleury Group. He holds a degree in Medicine from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, a Residency in Diagnostic Imaging and a PhD in Radiology from the Federal University of São Paulo, a post-doctorate from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, in New York, and an MBA in Business Management from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) in São Paulo. He is also a Founding Partner and CEO at Ambra Saúde, a medical data and image management cloud software company, and a mentor at DataH-Life and I2A2 – Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute, which focus on artificial intelligence applications for healthcare. He has experience in Healthcare Management, Innovation, Chest Radiology, PET/CT, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and General Radiology.

Sérgio Ferraz Novaes is Full Professor at the São Paulo State University. He is member of the Compact Muon Solenoid Collaboration from the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and he is the leader of the CMS group in São Paulo and the Principal Investigator of São Paulo Research and Analysis Center (SPRACE). His team deployed the GridUnesp, the first Campus Grid in Latin America and he is the Scientific Director of the Center for Scientific Computing from UNESP and PI of several joint R&D projects with the private sector which include an Intel Parallel Computing Center and a Center of Excellence in Machine Learning. His team broke three times the record of data transmission between the North and South Hemispheres. He is the Brazilian representative to the Particles and Fields Commission from the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, and the Technical-Scientific Director of the Management Committee of the Center of Technological Research in Oil and Gas of the Santos Basin.

Nizam Omar holds a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA), a Master’s Degree in Applied Mathematics – Informatics from  ITA and a PhD in Computer Science from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1989) . ITA’s Full Professor (retired), currently adjunct professor at the Mackenzie Presbyterian University, teaches in the Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He has experience in Computer Science, with emphasis in Computer Theory, Artificial Intelligence and Formal Languages, working mainly on the following topics: intelligent tutoring systems, expert systems, neural networks and learning environments for machines and humans.

João Paulo Papa received his B.Sc. in Information Systems from the Sao Paulo State University, SP, Brazil. In 2005, he received his M.Sc. in Computer Science from the Federal University of Sao Carlos, SP, Brazil. In 2008, he received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Campinas, SP, Brazil. During 2008-009, he had worked as a post-doctorate researcher at the same institute, and during 2014-2015 he worked as a visiting scholar at Harvard University. He has been a Professor at the Computer Science Department, Sao Paulo, State University, since 2009, and his research interests include machine learning, pattern recognition, and image processing. He is also the recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt fellowship and he is an IEEE Senior Member.

Gustavo Sousa Pavani graduated from University of Campinas (UNICAMP) with a degree in Computer Engineering. He received his M.Sc. degree and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from UNICAMP. He is an Associate Professor in Computer Science at Federal University of ABC (UFABC). From 2010 to 2012, he also served UFABC as its Chief Information Officer (CIO). His research interests cover theoretical and practical aspects within the fields of optical networking and communication systems by means of Artificial Intelligence techniques.

José Roberto Castilho Piqueira was born in Sorocaba, SP, Brazil, in 1952. He received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Universidade de São Paulo in 1974, 1983, and 1987, respectively. From 1974 to 1994, he worked in several telecommunication projects for Brazilian electronic and service industries, designing and developing circuits, equipment, and systems. Since 1994, he has been dedicated to teaching and research at Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo, being the Dean (2014-2018) and participating in projects for Brazilian Oil Agency and Brazilian Navy. Currently, he is a Full Professor, working with time distribution networks and running a laboratory where analytical and numerical studies support electronic and computational experiments, considering the several possible topologies and quantum control models. Besides, as synchronous complex networks appear in many aspects of human life, he works with some biological models by using differential equations and proposing complexity measures for some spreading phenomena.

Fábio André Machado Porto is a Senior Technologist at LNCC. He holds a DSc from PUC-Rio, with sandwich at INRIA. From 2004 and 2009 he was a posdoc and senior researcher at EPFL, in Lausanne. He is the founder and Head of the Data Extreme Lab, at LNCC, guiding research and development activities in Big Data Management, AI and Data Analysis, applied to domains such as: Astronomy, Public Health, Meteorology and Sports. He was the General Chair of VLDB 2019 and SBBD 2015 and is currently a member of the SBBD steering Committee.

Ronaldo Cristiano Prati is currently an Associate Professor at Federal University of ABC (UFABC), campus Santo André. At UFABC, he leaded the creation (in 2011) and was the head of the graduate program in Computer Science from 2011 to 2015. He has published several papers in major
conferences and journals, and a book published by Springer. He coordinated projects financed by Brazilian research-funding agencies FAPESP and CNPq in the area of Machine Learning and Data Mining. His current research interests include machine learning and data science, with applications in several areas including smart irrigation and computational chemistry.

Jaime Simão Sichman received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Escola Politécnica, Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering from the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, France. Prof. Jaime Simão Sichman is Associated Professor at the Department of Computer Engineering and Digital Systems, Escola Politécnica, Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil. He has published around 300 refereed papers, in journals and conferences. He has been involved in the organization of several conferences and journal special issues. His main interests are multi-agent systems, agent-based social simulation, normative systems, and computing frameworks/platforms for multi-agent systems.

Leandro Augusto da Silva is a Computer Engineer with a PhD in Systems Engineering from the School of Engineering of the University of São Paulo (Politécnica/USP). He is currently Adjunct Professor at the School of Computing and Informatics at Mackenzie University. He works on artificial neural networks, pattern recognition, data mining, machine learning and big data analytics.

Tiago Sanches da Silva is Professor at Institute Mauá of Technology, São Caetano do Sul, master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of São Paulo (2016). Researcher in the Nucleus of Embedded Systems of CEUN-IMT in Real Time Systems for embedded in critical systems. He has experience in Computer Science, with emphasis on Artificial Intelligence and Applied Data Science, web architecture for cloud applications and microcontrolling systems. As a line of research and studies, he is interested in the following subjects: Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Big Data and High Performance Computing.

Alexandre da Silva Simões is a full professor of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at UNESP. He has a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from USP. His research focus is Robotics, with particular interests in machine consciousness, machine learning, artificial intelligence, control and automation and also the dissemination of science and technology. He was a member of the Artificial Intelligence Committee (2008-2010), and the Robotics committee (2006-2008/2008-2010/2016-to date) of the Brazilian Computer Society He was chair of the robotics area at Campus Party Brazil (2007-2010). He is a founding member of the Brazilian Robotics Olympiad (OBR) and the National Robotics Fair (MNR). He was awarded the “Rumos Itaú Cultural” prize in cybernetics/robotics. He has founded RoboCup Brazil, and he was General co-Chair of the RoboCup 2014 World event. He is the Director of the Sorocaba Campus of UNESP for the 2017-2021 period.

Silvio Jorge Coelho Simões  is an Associate Professor of Geosciences and Geospatial Analysis at Institute of Science and Technology, São Paulo State University (UNESP), São José dos Campos Campus. He received his Ph.D. degree from University of São Paulo (USP) and Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). During 2001-2002, he worked as a post-doctorate researcher at the School of Engineering and Applied Science, Harvard University.  His main interests include GeoAI (GeoSpatial Artificial Intelligence), 3D modeling and virtual reality with application in various areas such as natural disasters, climate change, groundwater, energy and ocean environment.  He is responsible for the implementation of the first  graduate course on Natural Disaster in Brazil (master and doctorate levels) which was recently approved by Capes  (Brazilian Federal Agency for Post-Graduate Education).  This course is a partnership UNESP and Cemaden  (Brazilian Center for Monitoring and Early Warning of Natural Disaster) and it will be functioning inside the Technological Park of São José dos Campos.

Miguel Angelo de Abreu de Sousa is a Full Professor at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of São Paulo (IFSP). He holds a Masters and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo. His main interests lie in the development of Intelligent Systems and circuit architectures for the implementation of neural computation models. Currently, he is especially interested in using Machine Learning techniques for prediction of epileptic seizures.

Silvio Stanzani works as Research Associate at UNESP Center for Scientific Computing since 2015 on projects related to Machine Learning and High Performance Computing, with focus on performance optimization and on teaching of parallel programming and data analytics. He holds a Ph.D. from Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo (EPUSP), and a Master from Universidade Católica de Santos (Unisantos). He works on software development focused on parallel programming and distributed computing since 2005.

Thiago Rafael Fernandez Perez Tomei is a Research Associate at the Center for Scientific Computing of Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). He holds a Bs.C. in Physics from University of São Paulo (USP), and a Ph.D. in Physics from UNESP. His main field of work is High Energy Physics, having been a member of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experimental collaboration of the CERN LHC since 2006. His current interests include the search for Dark Matter in the LHC data, and the preparation of the CMS experiment for the high-luminosity upgrade of the LHC, where the application of machine learning techniques will be fundamental to deal with the unprecedented level of data that has to be simulated, acquired and analysed. He is studying generative models (Variational AutoEncoders and Generative Adversarial Networks) for event simulation and classification models (Recurrent Neural Networks, particularly Long Short-Term Memory RNNs) for data acquisition and analysis.

Arnaldo Rabello de Aguiar Vallim Filho holds a PhD from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo and a Master of Engineering from the University of Florida. He is currently a researcher and full Professor at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, with a predominant role in the area of Analytics in Data Science. His researches involve AI, OR, statistical techniques and heuristic methods applied to analyzes of large data masses. He is the Research Coordinator at the Faculty of Computer Science and Co-Coordinator of the Big Data Research Laboratory and Applied Analytical Methods – BigMAAp, at the same university.

Helio Waldman was graduated as Engenheiro de Eletrônica by Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA) in 1966, and  received his M.Sc. degree and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1968 and 1971 respectively. In 1972 and 1973 he was AssociateProfessor at COPPE/UFRJ. In 1974 he joined  Unicamp, where he is a Full Professor since 1980, having been Director of the Campinas Engineering School from 1982 to 1986 and the first Research Provost from 1986 to 1990. In 2006, he retired at Unicamp and joined UFABC as the first Research Provost of the newly-created University. In 2010, he was appointed to the first 4-year tenure as President of UFABC, and in 2014 he reached compulsory retirement upon his 70-th birthday. In 2009, he was admitted to the Ordem Nacional do Mérito Científico in the class of Comendador in the area of  Engineering Sciences, and is Emeritus Professor at UFABC, as well as “Life Senior Member” of IEEE. He is now a collaborating Professor both at Unicamp and UFABC, and coordinates a Fapesp Thematic Project called PICC (Protecting the Internet from the Capacity Crunch) with the support of UFABC and Unicamp (Proc. Fapesp 2015/24341-7). He is interested in the application of machine learning in the management of complex networks and other emerging cyber-systems, as well as in the humanization of man-machine interfaces.

Renata Wassermann is Associate Professor at the Computer Science Department of the University of São Paulo and part of the Logic, Artificial Intelligence and Formal Methods research group (LIAMF). Her area of research is Artificial Intelligence, with emphasis on Logic and Knowledge Representation. She received a PhD in 2000 from the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation of the University of Amsterdam. Since then, she has been exploring various related topics, such as relevance, ontologies, temporal and dynamic logics, argumentation. Besides logic, during the last decade, she has been actively working on ontology evolution and repair and the use of ontologies for data integration.

Mauro Zackiewicz has his PhD in Science and Technology Policy at Unicamp, Brazil. He has experience in innovation ecosystems, institutional design and evaluation, and start-ups. His present main interest is in formation of human capital to leverage the country digital transformation and new learning strategies oriented to the digital natives.

Artur Ziviani is a Senior Technologist at the National Laboratory of Scientific Computation (LNCC) at MCTIC, where he joined in 2004. He graduated in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic School of UFRJ in 1998. He obtained the Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at COPPE / UFRJ in 1999 and the Ph.D. in Computer Systems at the Université Paris VI, Sorbonne Universités, France, in December 2003. During the 2003-2004 academic year, he taught at the Université Paris VI. He was a research fellow at INRIA, France, for 5 months between 2008 and 2009. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the international journals IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials; Computer Networks (Elsevier) and International Journal of E-Health and Medical Communications (IJEHMC). His current research interests include characterization, modeling and analysis of computational networks, as well as network science and its applications in multidisciplinary contexts. He is a member of SBC, an affiliate member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) and a senior member of ACM and IEEE.
