Silvio Jorge Coelho Simões  is an Associate Professor of Geosciences and Geospatial Analysis at Institute of Science and Technology, São Paulo State University (UNESP), São José dos Campos Campus. He received his Ph.D. degree from University of São Paulo (USP) and Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). During 2001-2002, he worked as a post-doctorate researcher at the School of Engineering and Applied Science, Harvard University.  His main interests include GeoAI (GeoSpatial Artificial Intelligence), 3D modeling and virtual reality with application in various areas such as natural disasters, climate change, groundwater, energy and ocean environment.  He is responsible for the implementation of the first  graduate course on Natural Disaster in Brazil (master and doctorate levels) which was recently approved by Capes  (Brazilian Federal Agency for Post-Graduate Education).  This course is a partnership UNESP and Cemaden  (Brazilian Center for Monitoring and Early Warning of Natural Disaster) and it will be functioning inside the Technological Park of São José dos Campos.
