ABOUT EVENT

In this event, researchers from some of the most important universities in Brazil will launch the Advanced Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2, https://advancedinstitute.ai) with the aim of promoting the convergence of interests and joint research between academia and the private sector. The workshop, which will be held at the Center for Scientific Computing from the São Paulo State University, will bring together researchers that work in the area of artificial intelligence and it will give an opportunity for potential partners and sponsors in the private sector to present possibilities of collaborations with the institute.

One of the institute’s main objectives is to provide a simple and efficient organizational structure to give researchers autonomy and reliability in the relationship with the private sector, respecting the contours of academic activity. With AI2, the private initiative will have an access point to highly qualified talents of the academic environment who have a deep understanding of artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, robotics, etc.

AI2 will be a facilitator and promoter of the development of innovative projects that use the advances of digital technology to promote actions of socioeconomic impact. The projects must, at the same time, meet the interests of the private initiatives and the academic environment, bring direct or indirect benefits to society, and seek to influence the creation of public policies for the development of the area. Several countries have already introduced a state policy in this strategic area, and Brazil’s backwardness may jeopardize not only the economic development but even compromise the national sovereignty in the near future.

In order to accomplish our goals, we intend to deploy a network of coworking spaces, connected through an always-on videoconference system, which will provide the means for an effective interaction between researchers and developers that work in different areas of AI that may be spread throughout the world.

AI2 is a non-profitable organization that values transparency, inclusiveness and transversality of its actions. It is, by no means, restricted to Brazil. The institute intends to establish collaboration and partnership with research institutions from all over the world, and to encourage discussions on the ethics in the use of AI and on its impact on society.
